Good example of a federal gov't agency policy failure. DOE doesn't allow the flood gates at the dam to open until lake level @ 172.3 MSL, 8 to 10 in. or more of rain forecasted coming a week in advance & only 1 generator in service. All this damage could have been minimized with a controlled drawdown ahead of this storm. No let's just sit around & wait, let the water come up, til it destroys property & threatens the integrity of the dam then release all of it and destroy everything downstream, brilliant!

This is true... although the waited until the lake level was almost 3ft high to start releasing water and the new that Dallas-Shreveport had received record rainfall.

Was in Merryville yesterday and ran into a lady whose home was flooded. She was saying that Toledo Bend was waiting til the last minute to open the gates because of the bass spawning and bass tournaments. Dead serious

Burkeville, Bon Wier, Deweyville, Vinton, Starks, all seeing flood waters 10 - 14 ft. above floodstage, 1300 ordered to evacuate in Deweyville alone, Sabine River expected to crest @ 35.1 ft. there tomorrow, and to top it off possible closing of I-10 in Orange & Starks this week

It F'd up a good Sabine run I had going. I feel bad for all the people it has effected. We've had some flooding issues around our area but nothing like people east of us.
