Sabine River flooding

Good example of a federal gov't agency policy failure. DOE doesn't allow the flood gates at the dam to open until lake level @ 172.3 MSL, 8 to 10 in. or more of rain forecasted coming a week in advance & only 1 generator in service. All this damage could have been minimized with a controlled drawdown ahead of this storm. No let's just sit around & wait, let the water come up, til it destroys property & threatens the integrity of the dam then release all of it and destroy everything downstream, brilliant!

Not like the forecast was for heavier rains more toward the East. If you recall, they were calling for 10" here in Lake charles and we didn't see a drop the day they cancelled schools. They can predict the future just as much as a weatherman can.

This is true... although the waited until the lake level was almost 3ft high to start releasing water and the new that Dallas-Shreveport had received record rainfall.

Was in Merryville yesterday and ran into a lady whose home was flooded. She was saying that Toledo Bend was waiting til the last minute to open the gates because of the bass spawning and bass tournaments. Dead serious

BassYakR 03-14-2016 01:33 PM

100% that is not true.... SRA has reported why they waited....

Makes sense...They been having a great big bass season this year. Don't want to screw up the genetics

Anyone got some pics of the flooding?

Baychamp1 03-14-2016 05:47 PM

Burkeville, Bon Wier, Deweyville, Vinton, Starks, all seeing flood waters 10 - 14 ft. above floodstage, 1300 ordered to evacuate in Deweyville alone, Sabine River expected to crest @ 35.1 ft. there tomorrow, and to top it off possible closing of I-10 in Orange & Starks this week

It F'd up a good Sabine run I had going. I feel bad for all the people it has effected. We've had some flooding issues around our area but nothing like people east of us.

LOL, I get it, from an earlier post

My neighbor has a camp on Toledo and I mentioned this to him and he was saying that the bass spawning thing is partially true more indirectly. He said many years back they opened the gates because of predicted rainfall and the rains didn't come. The lake dropped 13 feet If that happened now and the lake didn't fill back up and with the high temps coming there could be a good fish kill.

But either way I don't think people actually realize how much rain they got in that area.
