Default Big Lake 10/17/16 with my dad ...

Took my dad out Monday at the age of 69 for his first inshore trip.

Headed out shortly after the fog lifted and found several groups of birds working in the north end of BL / Turners. Picked up a couple of nice keeper trout to my surprise after picking through several short ones and a few sand trout. Last time I had hit the birds they had all seemed to be 11 & 7/8 inches long. LoL

After that played out we moved north to the Haymark area to try and catch a red or two. Having a couple of break offs on the ole zebco 33 ... I figured it was time he learned how to use a baitcaster ! After picking a few back lashes out he was good to go. Finally ... a few reds landed and one hit the ice for him to grill.

We moved north through the day chasing the tide and was hunting for flounder now to give him the full feel. After a few stops and not succeeding I went to a spot that has always produced in Prien Lake. We were able to add a couple to the collection and call it a day.

Throughout the day I motored down to Commissary Point, Texaco cut, Spicers, and eventually to Lake Charles to let him take in some of the views. I guess we see it all the time and it doesn't wow us as much anymore ... but he couldn't stop smiling and talking about the atmosphere. Way different than his home waters of Spring Bayou or Larto Lake.

On the way back into Calc Point we made a few cast in the turn around area and realized I didn't photo any of his catches. Luckily this one decided to bite for a photo op.

Monday was a amazing day for us ! Not measured by how many fish were in the box but measured by the quality of time spent together. I've been caught up fishing the last few years measuring the day by the numbers boated. The same for my other passion of chasing bass. I usually fish with a lot of pressure on myself to catch, catch, catch ! Numbers, Numbers or its a bad day.
Monday rearranged a lot of thoughts for me and fishing. I've been blessed to have been raised by a great man that has his beliefs and morals in the right place.

I thank you Dad ! Cant wait to do it again !
