Info. from the bill: ![]() Lambert HB No. 245 Abstract: Provides for the issuance of nonresident hunting and recreational fishing licenses at the same cost as resident licenses. Proposed law specifies that until Jan. 1, 2016, the fees in present law for nonresident hunting and recreational fishing licenses shall be reduced as follows: Duck license from $ 25 to $ 5.50 Wild turkey from $ 25 to $ 5.50 Basic hunting from $ 200 to $ 15 Big game from $ 250 to $ 15 Primitive firearms from $ 50 to $ 10.50 Bow hunting from $ 50 to $ 10.50 Freshwater fishing from $ 60 to $ 9.50 Saltwater fishing from $ 30 to $ 5.50 Effective Jan. 1, 2016, license fees return to previous levels. (Amends R.S. 56:103.1(B)(1), 104(A)(2) and (4), 105(B), 153, 302.1(A) and (C)(1)(a)) |

The thought was that the license fees LDWF would LOSE would be more than compensated for by revenue GAINED from hotels, food, gasoline, supplies, etc. that the additional NR hunters would provide. It was intended as an experiment, and there was supposedly negotiated compensation between Depts. of Economic Development and Wildlife and Fisheries. But it didn't work out.
