![]() We did okay between fishing the banks past the barrier. Then the overflow area there around the point where the old river starts. Lots of stumps and a half dead trollin' battery got us outta there pretty quick. First year to fish that at all..but sounds like the fishing has been better there in years past...we caught a few throw back reds...one keeper spec. Then we ran up the river to polish off the evening bass fishing and I caught this one in moss bluff bay on a coutner strike buzz bait! Talk about wonder what kinda bass I had on the line! Does anyone have any luck with reds by the barrier? I don't have a boat big enough to do much in big lake! hope the report helps...any kinda help on finding the reds would be appreciated! ![]() |

Nice fish, reds get thick up there but with the last two weeks of rain has put a damper on em, good strong tides and no rain will help, when the locks close get ur poles out....good luck bud

Buddy catches there in the marsh behind the old ice house, when you go through salt barrier headed south take a left and fish the cuts

Should be on starting next month as long as we get back to a normal rain pattern.

When the water up near the salt water barrier starts to get a little salty.....fishing for Red's will get better.
One pattern that works for me is to fish a gold spinner bait with a soft plastic bait along the bank. Fish it really slow during the hot summer down near the bottom. Hold on the the rod..... you never know if a 10" or 30" Red will take the bait. There are 2 cuts going into the marsh down stream of the SB..... fish them if the tide is moving. Fish the cut or out toward the river. |

Thanks for the tip...does the soft plastics design or color make much difference in your experience?

I don't think so. I like the Paddle or Split tail type baits.
