Just buy another boat and have 2, one for bigger waters and one for smaller. I definitely wouldn't get rid of a bay boat since it has so many capabilities.

I sold my bay boat and bought a smaller rig and dont regret the move...
We were burning out on the "combat fishing", plus fuel and maintenance costs were only going up... Boat was five years old and in great shape so it was a good time to bail out of it and we did OK on the sale... Its not a move that everyone will agree on, but it suites our situation well... I also find myself fishing allot more now than with the bigger boat and in places where I wouldnt have dreamed about going with a larger rig... Also looking at selling the 3/4 ton since its towing capabilities arent really needed anymore... Best case, have two boats !!! I would like a fleet of them, just not practical... Good luck !!! That's kinda where I'm at Hydro. My boat is an 07 custom built aluminum bay boat with a 200 opti. But I think I may just look for a smaller mud boat project and keep my bay boat. That way I can still hit the islands in the summer. I'll just have to back off the throttle somewhat.

I have a gtr ad still fish offshore on VERY calm days. You'd just hve to be smart about what your doin and be very diligent if any little thing changes. But if it was me, I would keep the bay boat and lay off the throttle or have a small project boat. you can never have too many boats.
And y'all can have those gps coordinates if you like hardhead catfish. We prolly pulled up 40 right there about 4 lbs each. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I would keep the bay boat and get another smaller boat if you can. I have a 22' Bay Boat a 15' Alum flat and a 16' GoDevil boat. I use the 15' Flat the most but would never want to be without a bay boat. We use it for everything from fisning to pulling the kids on ski's and tubes to just riding around.

I had a 19' bay boat with a 115 Johnson, a 17 bass boat with a 112 Evinrude, and a 16jv Carolina Skiff with a 25 Tahotsu, I caught way more fish out of the carolina skiff than any other boat I have been on.

I was thinking about doing the same thing. Luckily my brother bought a gator for duck hunting, so I just borrow it. My step-dad also has a couple of air boats I can use when I realy want to get back in there.
I have been out to the short rigs in a big jon boat, but a gator? Thats as bad as the kayakers out 20 miles. Even my bay boat, I put up a flag. If it starts moving, im headed in. Two of my uncles spent three days on a gas platform before anyone found them. Have no interest in any of that. |

If you ONLY knew these two! Gator tail is the way to go if ya not in a hurry, got a 22ft bay and find ourselves wishing for a 18-20 ft CC GT at times.
