What the Heck Is This??? Any ideas?
Over by the edge of intercoastal canal and inbetween where the red marker is. was catching a few trout then all of a sudden, nothing. I mean straight up silence. Then, I started catching these weird silver snake looking fish back to back. Must of caught 15 of them. So i moved to a new spot. Threw them back of couse. My question is What that Heck are these, I'm sure you guys have seen there before, but I didnt know what they were. Any ideas? Seems like they ran everything else out the area!

dont look like eating fish. maybe bait. But they sure ran the other fish out.

Other Names :[SIZE=3]Ribbonfish, Silver Eel, Atlantic Cutlassfish[/SIZE]
Range & Habitat :Atlantic cutlassfish are found Gulfwide, from bays and inlets to offshore waters out to 300 feet deep. In inshore and nearshore waters, the fish is only common in warmer months. It is most common over mud bottoms. It uses all levels in the water column. Identification & Biology :The metallic silver body is very flattened from side-to-side and ribbon-like. It has a single dorsal fin that extends the length of the body. It has no pelvic or tail fin and the anal fin is all but unnoticeable. This fish has a large eye and a very large mouth filled with impressive fang-like teeth. They are voracious eaters of small fishes and are occasionally caught on hooks. Atlantic cutlassfish make excellent bait, especially for trolling, but are also good as cut bait. Size :Very common to 3 feet long, not rare at 4 feet. Those things freak me out. I just get rid of them as quick as I can. I had one that was actually still pulling backwards when about 6 inches of him was out of the water. had no idea what was goin on.

I hate those sob's. The first time I got in a mess of them they ate the back end off of three quarters of a bucket of gulp before we landed one and found out what they where. Some say if u try to fish under them u will find trout and trout do eat them but I usually just move on when I find these fish. They are extremely aggressive when feeding and I've never caught anything near a school of these nuisance fish.

Yea, thats what i did.
nothing else was biting so i just got out of there. tore up about a half of bag of my gulp smelt shad. paid 5 bucks for those things.
