Default Saltwater Oilman's Championship Event

4th Annul Oilmans Saltwater Championship (OSC) was this weekend on Big Lake

It was a two day event with multiple categories from Offshore fishing to inland

I fished with Nick Andrus with Coastal Chemical and we took his new Haynie 24ft out for this event. 1st day in the water was on Thursday as we broke in right!

We entered the all the Trout and redfish divisions.

Fri morning we had a good day landing a bunch of trout on topwater but never had any real good size to the fish. Stayed on our stop till 10am before we moved around looking for some bigger fish
Ended the day in 1st place in the 5 trout stinger division

Sat morning was just an last minute cut feeling I made for a chance for some bigger fish. We pulled up at 6am and our 1st 5 cast was a blow up or fish! Had our 1st two reds in no time and two nice 3lb trout.

about 7am the boat traffic was horrible and all the waves and motors pushed the fish deeper and off the flat. Then it was a lot of fishing after that. Trying to stay away from boats and off the lake we struggled to put more trout in the boat! We finally got back on a few trout around 12 but the size was still not good just 15inch trout

After the two days...We did find our self with a good bit of money

We took 2nd Place in the 5 Trout Stinger division...

(also another Saltycajun picked up a pile of money Evis... He place in 3 Division Big Flounder, Cajun Slam, and Had 2nd Big Flounder over all) Congratulations

Congrats again "W" and good seeing you out there. My trip was far from fun as I pointed the OutFoxed south from the Cameron jetties, w/ 5 footers in the jetties. Once I cleared the rocks, it went to 6-8' and was very dicey. After the boat went airborne twice with the props coming out the water, the wife of the boat owner was not happy and we had to turn around.

The boat could have handled it, but the crew was not having any of it!

Not sure what side you were on, but offshore was bad Friday & Saturday. Had a friend of mine trailer his boat to Grand Isle for the Fishing for Memories tournament which is held in Intracoastal City. He read that it would be calmer there thent the west side. He fought big seas all weekend long, but just heard he got best offshore boat and has several fish on the board.

He broke several components on his boat due to rough conditions.

I fished Breton sound sat ran 40+ miles from BSM zero winds! Flat seas , a 14 ft flat boat could have made the run .

Guys

I fished the FFM for 3 days out of Cameron. Having to go North up to the Hackberry area.

My son and I fished hard for 12 hrs a day and Saturday didn't get back to Cameron launch until 10 PM.

Live bait , plastic Etc. All 3 of the Trout that won money came from BL area.

Several from Prien lake! Go figure. IT was windy all 3 days from 10-20 MPH. Today was lighter winds first thing this morning. The the wind machine turned on high.

Only place we found good water was above long point on the channel.

Check this out. Me and my son are anchored up in the mouth of Joe's Cove.

A 19 fishmaster with 4 dudes come up anchor about 25-30 yards from us.

No problem we were fishing straight behind the boat. Thye put out 4 rods wiht live bait on the bottom.

The beer-fest starts. About 2 Hrs. later one rods bows over, guys picks it up , his friends start saying oh is a catfiish, About 2 minutes later I hear get the net, it's a trout.

They land a 28' trout. Damn the Luck. Oh ya they are from Texas and don't fish the star.

Oh well that fishing for you.

Biggun
