Once again I agree with Ray, Fish can hear hull slap, ice chests slamming, and for sure trolling motors. We used to chase the reds back in the Grand Bayou shallows. When a school was up munching shrimp and mullet on some days they would go down when you started the trolling motor 75 yards away. A push pole was better but then they could see you standing up. Other days the trolling motor didn't bother them as much. It seemed to be better to keep it on all the time and speed it up or slow it down gently. I think that big trout have learned to associate boat sounds with danger.
