Default Best Christmas present

I bought my brother in law a Stix spinning rod with a Shimano Stradic on it
for Christmas. I thought that this was a present that couldn't be beat.

But he got me a 48 qu. Yeti cooler.

I still can't believe I got a Yeti for a Christmas present. This is gotta be
one of the bestest Christmas's ever for me.

I've got 2 yetis and i wouldnt trade them for anything. I remember during the hurricane they kept ice for a week. Even when the ice melts, the water stays just as cold for a couple more days. LOVE EM!!

What make them hold ice / cold so well????

Are they make of some different material or just thicker material?

In the video it said they have 3" insulation in the lid.

I have a small ice chests that was "attacked" by a bear and it has a puncture hole....probably from a claw.

Bear like Oreo cookies and tea.....she did not eat my apple.

They have a thick black rubber seal, instead of hard plastic. Kind of like a fridge
but tougher. They also have a hinge that will never break as easy as the Igloo
will. It is integrated into the box and lid with a rod. No plastic hinge to degrade
in the sun and break.
The outside is as big as a normal cooler, but inside it is smaller due to the thick
sides.

A good tip for all the YETI users...

If you know you will use it a day before, put some ice in it or keep it inside to keep the chest cool. I normally put some frozen 2 liter bottles in my YETI the day before I plan on using it to keep it nice and cold before I put my ice in it. Also, put stuff in there that's already cold.

I do that with regular ice chest too.
In the summer, I put them in the house and open the lid.
Be sure to keep all drinks in the fridge the night before.
In the morning, put the cold drinks into the cooler and add
ice.
If you put hot drinks in a hot cooler and add a bag of ice,
the ice will be melted before lunch time.

In the winter time, I leave the ice chest outside cause it
is colder out there than inside.

I like the idea of a padlock on a cooler(in video). If you've ever been to a crawfish boil, you know there is always some moocher who shows up with no beer or cigarettes. Those late teen kids like to 'sneak' one or two out of your box also ...

Kind of like going to a BYOB party and when you go back for a second drink..... your bottle is half empty. My wife made a bag with our name on it to put the bottle in and after that not really a problem. Guess people did not want to be seen.....checking what was in the bag.

Those are some great coolers as I have one. I never thought about cooling it down before though so thanks for the tips.

It helps out big time. Like they say on their website (I think that's where I read it)....it's actually an insulator, if you put in something hot it'll keep it hot, if you put in something cold it'll keep it cold.

I bet for the price of the Yeti you could probably get a 12 volt chiller/frig. I've seen some in ice chest size. I wouldn't put fish in it though cause it'd be hell to clean. Just vital medicine and survival gear ...in other words: beer.

On second thought, maybe not - Here's a 39 quart. It lists for about $800. I wouldn't have any beer money left over...http://www.sailorsams.com/images/cf-40.jpg
