Default What shades do you use?

After having worn perscription glasses for the better part of my 50 years and with the technology that has advanced, I decided to have LASIK surgery last week. Right now I still don't see good, i was told that it could take a couple of months before the total healing process will be completed but after the healing process the Dr. said I should have better than average site. So for the first time I will be able to buy regular sun glasses. I am leaning to by some COSTA's but what shade should I go with. They have a variety of shade colors and darknesses. What do you guy's recommend for eye protection and cutting the glare. Blue mirror, green mirror, no mirror, grey, amber......

I have been using Maui Jims (amber) for as long as I can remember. Good fit, no glare.

I have a pair of Costa del Mar Man O' Wars w/ the blue 580's and I love them. I had 2 pairs of Costa's without the 580's and they can't compare. I'll never own another pair without those lenses.

Costa Triple Tail with green amber lenses 400's....I have heard from a lot of people that the 580 are worth the extra price.

I had LASIK done a several years ago....best $ I even spent!

green mirror for general inshore use

vermillion for sight fishing the flats in cleaner water

One drawback on the mirror is your nose gets sunburned faster, regular amber would be ok I'm guessing.

580 lens is better

Costa del mar customer service is sketchy and the mirror lenses are famous for delaminating, just the way it is

The mirror lens on the 400s will delaminate over time but they have always replaced all mine, I havent had a problem with that on any of my 580s yet

I love Costas. They are so clear to see out of.
I had Lasik at 4 pm in Metry, La. The doctor gave me some sleeping pills.
I went to a hotel across the street and slept. Next morning, I drove my
self home to Lake Charles. I had 20/15 the next morning and it is still the
same today, 5 years later.

congrats on the Lasik, I had it done about 3 years ago and it is definitely the best money I have ever or probably ever will spend. I have costas as well with the green mirroed 580's. I have a pair with the 400 lenses as well and honestly can only tell a difference on real bright days.

I do a lot of sight fishing and the vermillion lens in the 400 are best for that if you don't want to spend the extra money for the 580's. I recommend spending the extra because there is no comparison to the 580's....In the 580's they offer a copper lense (which is best for sight fishing) and the only mirror finish these lens are offered in is the silver mirror. I have 2 pair of manowars(copper silver mirror) and I love them and wear them all day everyday. They are perfect for all around use and are, in my opinion, the best for fishing!

Maui Jim only. I've had Costas and they were good but I will never own anything except Maui's from this point forward.

I have maui jims and costas....been having the maui jims for a few years and i love em... bought the costas because they had some with interchangeable lenses on steepncheep.com and they are nice too. I still like the way the maui jims fit better. They are both high quality glasses I think its all in fit preference and what lens color you want. Go to a sunglasses store and try them on its the only way to find the right ones for you.

i got new costa permits with green mirror and i love them. they kind of have an oversized frame that totally blocks out sun. i also have costa ballasts for just knocking around. I had some triple tails that i loved but someone stole them! mine are all 400's. i hear the 580s are better. i used a buddy's before and couldnt tell that big of difference though.

Man ain't lasik great!!! I had the same problem; couldn't wear a decent pair of sunglasses for 20 years. The first thing I did after lasik surgery was buy a pair of costa stringers and loved them until someone stole them. The only problem I had with them was that the bridge of my nose is, well, larger than normal. So the costas ride a little high leaving a large opening at the bottom.

Now I buy the Academy Magellans. They fit well endowed noses a little better, and you'd be surprised at how well they work for the price. The frames may not be as good of quality, but I have a hard time telling the clarity difference compared to costas once they are on your face. Until I have nose surgery to go with my lasik I'll probably stick with the Magellans.
