I don't think anyone suggested that anyone HAD to spend the extra money on higher end rods. But for someone who does want to, or can, spend the extra bucks, there's are some benefits to the pricier options.

Generally, they weigh less. Lighter weight means more comfortable rods to fish with for longer periods of time.
Also, the pricier rods generally have better corrosion resistant components (guides and hardware).
Same can be said about reels also.

For me, I don't think that having nicer gear means i will automatically catch more fish. I just think it will make the owning, maintenance, and comfort of doing so a little easier. Just my two cents.

And good choice on the Duce rod. Good rod, good company, local business.
