I did it in my old 15ft flats skiff in November a few years ago. Winds were east and blowing 20-25mph!
It sucked, but it's do-able. We made it to the head of the passes by hugging east bank, hen fished marsh for redfish. With that said, I will likely never do it again :-) There are opportunities that don't require a MS River run. We did that on day 2
