You my friend hit the nail on the head. Three or four times in the past couple of months while cutting and chopping onions(a lot of onions)they were so strong my eyes were watering and I had to stop to keep from cutting my fingers off.

a trick I use is to run the ceiling fan on high or put a box fan on the counter set on medium or low blowing in from the side, it keeps the fumes from getting to your eyes and I never tear up.

its so easy and works so well I cant believe its not a standard kitchen practice to use. I found out by accident at camp using a fan to cool off and was amazed chopping up the onions did nothing to me
