The lake is public property that everyone has the right to use and enjoy. Abandoned crab traps are as bad as a tire shop owner throwing junk tires on public property. Or a muffler shop trashing old mufflers in the lake. For that matter, any business whose refuse negatively affects the rights of others should be intolerable. I respect crabbers as business people and will give those who deserve it all the respect in the world. But, the irresponsible will be treated accordingly and none of us should be afraid to take the law into our own hands and clean up a mess.

Thats what I am thinking, those things aren't cheap

A crabber can't find a trap if the float was cut off from a prop, ...or knife, don't think they would purposely leave them behind, after all this is how he makes his living

Did u see that pick i posted?? There is over 25 traps with zero floats... I know that all those were not cut by props because no one even goes right there in a boat..

The few I know bring in the torn up ones and replace them. Look at a crabber on return trip to the dock, they almost always have a trap or 2 on the deck. When they go out they have a couple to replace the broken ones.

Crabbers run the same type of engine that rec guys run, they get **** caught in thier props too, they dont want to have to cut a trap out of thier prop just the like the rest of us. They doing all they can to save them. Do some get messed up and left out there? Yes, it's pretty evident. But I can garuntee no (that I know) crabber is doing it on purpose. I know quite a few that participate in dereliect crab trap removal programs.
