This weather is crazy!
I was booked to fish a private boat offshore on Saturday. That was canceled due to high seas. I get a call from Venice Sportsman's lodge for my inshore boat on Sat. It was to be a 2 boat trip for 6 guys that had their off shore trip canceled. We could not find a second boat so that got scrubbed. I get a call from BEF looking for me to run a boat for them. With nothing going on I said yes. An hour later I get a call that mission got scrapped. I do not know if it was because of the high winds or the low water due to the winds blowing the water out keeping them from getting to the place they had to go. Somebody mentioned there were people looking to fish inshore due to cancelled offshore trips so Saturday morning I go to the marina. With opening day of duck season there was no place to park the trailer after launching. I talked to the girls at the Marina and they said the people decided to go to the city instead. After a breakfast at Venice marina I decided to go out exploring.
There were boats fishing the jump, river, and all the usual fall places. The diversion was a parking lot. I scouted the gap and found a few fish. Nothing as good as I wanted to see. I moved into some of the nearby passes and the fish were there also. On the way back a boat at the gap with live shrimp was doing good with the trout. I headed in about noon. During my ventures I managed 22 trout. While out there I get a call from Wade and Dolly from SC. that had a canceled offshore trip Sunday. I booked them.
We met at Venice Marina and had a good breakfast before heading out. Ward fishes all the time but his wife Dolly had no experience with this action. It took a while but she got into the action and was bailing them into the boat just like ward. After 35-40 fish the action slowed down. We were into the fishing mode instead of the catching mode. There was enough action to not warrant a move for the few we needed. By this time Dolly's hands were sore from all the catching so she decided to make them feel better by wrapping them around a cold beer. They were red from this new thing she learned (CATCHING). Once we had our limit of trout we eased up the calm side of the of the river looking for redfish.
All we could find was some rats but some of them were very colorful with the bright colors and blue tails. We had a good day on the water and I came in with a good box (Limit) of trout and some happy customers.
It was a good fall fishing day. All the conditions are in place for some excellent (Cast & Blast) action in the Venice area. The trout are in all your favorite places in the river. Now is the time to get them before the river rises and they move away.
Life is Good!
Fishing is not a matter of life or death. It's more important than that.
