according to the dnr website spring shrimp season is set to open for big lake on the 27th.
I am planning on picking up some shrimp in the hackberry area that day. since season opens at 6am that day i would imagine by the afternoon they will have boats at docks unloading right? |

Probably not. At least not around here. Most of the boats that make opening day are 2 day hit it and quit it fill their own freezer boats. The factory boats mostly skim at night and are at the dock in the AM to unload. I'd wait till Tuesday or Wed if you buying from the Factory. |

If you buying from someone with a land net then you may be able to get some in the afternoon depending on how the running. My Uncle has a land net and most of the time they put it down at night or when the tide is falling really hard. |

thanks for the link warren, I ended up talking to the guy they have listed for hackberry and he's the same fellow who i bought from last year.
From what he told me it would be best to wait till the 30th or so to let things settle down, first couple days shrimp are gonna be sparse because the local people will be filling there own freezers, and the prices will be high. |
