Beside length, there are some that say you will have a power difference with a short shaft vs. a long shaft. Personally I don't believe it.
One thing that I have found with a long shaft motor is you have less water come over the transom when backing down. Also the long shaft motor is a little heavier, but probably not enough to notice once on the boat. Warren
