It is burned to allow the marsh to grow and have "fresh" marsh grass for the alligator nesting in the spring. They burned some sections along the south shore of Grand Lake and someone other than Miami reps set an area on fire just north of Hwy 82 and east of the Superior Canal. The area that was set on fire on the east of the Superior Canal burned some brand new pylons on a compressor deck that was set in place less than 3 months ago.
