Default Reds, Flounder, and puppy drum!

Had a weekend of uncertain issues following a long illness for my grandmother. It was decided on Friday we would go ahead and make a trip with my two boys down to Dularge for some fishing and be prepared to pack up a go if need be. Well, old Maw-Maw did ok this weekend and the fish were there to keep us busy!

We found some reds stacked up in an oldie but goodie spot fishing carolina rigged cracked crab, and mixed in a few puppy drum. I keep all the puppy drum I can to make red gravy and rice, but some people don't like them. That is the best fish for a red gravy I find and we love em'. Also, checked a couple of drains flowing out of the marsh and picked up 2 nice flounder which I scaled and deboned whole to later stuff w/ shrimp and crabmeat.

My plans to chase triple tail were cut short with the wind, but it was a great time for my wife and boys. All fish were caught in the Lost Lake/Carencro Bayou area and the tide was key to catching the reds. Once the tide shut down, so did the bite! Good luck and tight lines!

Many thanks HH, for the life of me, I could remember how to spell "COURTBOUILLON", but you knew what I meant!

FFF nice catch...nothing like the kids catching. I went a few weeks ago and my son caught a 21" trout on coon point between the rocks on a Tsunami Swin bait. He is still taking about it to his friends in the neighborhood. You did not try to chase any specs. From what I am told (new to fishing that area...first year) but from the middle to August to late September the trout bite is very up and down.

2009 makes number 13 for me ( I think, some of those years are a blur)......During August and most of September, I target redfish and work on the deer & duck leases. That way, when October rolls around, we sneak out for easy speck trips close to the camps. The fall migration is way different than the spring run (at least I find it so) and it takes some serious sool fronts to pattern specks again. Look at it this way, their is a reason Cpt. Bill Lake and other guides take vacation in August/September. Hope this helps!

Yes I have noticed this on the "OTHER SITE" where most of the DU guides post it has been a ghost town from them over the past week or so. I will start to hit that area again in OCT...Nice thing is you will not have to run to the coast/rigs to catch. A buddy of mine went to Lake Decade last week and they tore up the reds. He tells me the only time you really catch specs in Lake Decade is NOV & DEC.
