Default SLR Camera

My wife has been on me for awhile asking about an SLR camera. She wants one and saw one at Sam's the other day and hinted again. I know nothing about them really. I figure I will use it as well for days on the water as well. Who uses one and what do you recommend? Thanks

I have a Nikon D5000 shoots good and pretty simple to use, until you get into all the settings and what not, but i normally just turn it on and go. Takes damn good pictures and the plus side to this SLR is you can take a picture through live view, on the screen, instead of having to look through the little hole to take a pic.
But some people have different preferences, this is just my experience with Nikon.
here is some pictures of my a friends hot rod i did a while back with it

For the money the Canon EOS Rebel XS Double Zoom Lens Kit for $600 at Sams is probably the best buy out there.

If you want video with the camera I would go with the Cannon Rebel T1i or the T2i. If I was going that route the Rebel T2i would be the one I would choose, check or google B&H Photos and Adorama.com also for prices. Hope this helps.

Another vote for Cannon. I have a Cannon. Mine is a EOS 20D that I have owned for about 5 years. I have though of getting a new camera but this one takes amazing pics and the newer cameras are not that much better to justify the cost. The main diff to me from the higher end Cannons and the Rebels would the be that the Rebel has a pastic body. It is a great SLR for someone just starting out. My neighbor shoots professionally with a Rebel. I would however recommend that you then invest in a good telephoto lens. 90% of the photos you take will be with the kit lens that comes with the camera it is a pretty good lens. However, when you buy a telephoto lens get the best you can afford. If you decide you enjoy taking pictures then you can use the lens on a nicer camera later. If you buy cheap you will not be happy with the pics you take. Whatever you do I also recommend that you buy from B&H they have the best prices, fast shipping and are easy to deal with. I buy all of my stuff from them. I was never much of one to take pictures. I always had cheap point and shoot cameras. One year like you my wife asked for a nice camera I read and read and finally decided on Cannon. I have never regretted it once and I am sure you won't either. There is a reason they are the number one Digital SLR camera in the world. And don't worry about all those buttons. You can use them as point and shoot too. Very easy to use and take great photos in auto.

Thanks guys. I just asked her what she was thinking of doing with it and she wants to dabble with taking her own quality photos of the kids instead of paying a place. What type lens would you want for that?

I asked my better half who is a photographer, who uses Cannon, she recommended a 28-135mm lens for what your wife wants to do.

Default Have had good results from my Nikon D70

purchased back in 2004. I'm assuming you're referring to a DSLR or digital SLR rather than just an SLR which takes film pictures. Take most of my pictures with a Nikkor 28-200 mm lens. My wife used it the most taking a lot of beautiful close-up flower shots. If you're going to do macro shots you need a fixed lens such as a 60 mm along with a couple of inexpensive magnification filters that screw on to the end of the lens. Much cheaper way to go than buying a fancy macro lens. If you're wanting to take long distance shots of wildlife, etc. you will need a telephoto lens which can end up costing you several times more than the camera itself!

I asked Christine and she said WOW!... good price! Check her site..... http://www.ccsphotographyonline.com/ she has some great shots, click galleries, great nature, landscape pictures and other gallery pics...face book page http://www.facebook.com/pages/Jonesv...2731596?ref=mf Oh, by the way, the Canon Rebel XS is now Christine's secondary camera, and she shot professionally with the Rebel XS camera for a long time, and a lot of the pictures on her gallery where shot with the Rebel XS....she just bought a Canon 7D which is now her primary camera.
