Going to pick up ice cream this afternoon. The dry ice comes in a "block". Do I need to bust it up to cover the ice cream? Do I need regular ice in there, also?

Don't break the block. Leave it in it's wrapper and cover with a towel or something similar. You should be good to go.
If you do experience a little too much softening of your product, pour about a half cup of water in the cooler. The will help the dry ice and your product will be super frozen very quickly! |

i think you'll be fine, just make sure you do cover the ice with a lite towel or something. what about covering the ice with a damp cloth? just thinking out loud here |

Trust mr when I say a half cup of water I gonna freeze quick!! It just sets off a reaction but I doubt you'll need it due to s. La humidity.
