I just hope this was an honest mistake where the guy mistook it for a pig and not just a purposeful killing. Both of those areas have pigs so maybe it was an honest mistake, I doubt it but maybe
The incident where the LSU professor was on Red River and shot a mother and a cub was an honest mistake and the guy owned up to it, and that was quite a hefty fine. That took a LOT of integrity right there |

He is a ULL professor and still hunts Red River. He was up there this past Thanksgiving. Not only did he own up to it, he marched himself right up to the game wardens and turned himself in.

That took some fortitude! 99% of people would not have done that

I got the first hand account over a beer with this guy during dove season a couple years back. He's no average hunter either...spends a ton of time in those Red River woods and had killed over 10 pigs that year off the stand he shot the bear out of. You gotta toast the guy for manning up.

On another note, turning himself in was the admirable thing to do. |

I agree with both, but I do see how it could happen. I know a biologist that works around bears all the time. He was hunting for hogs, had a .22 and got on a group of hogs. He was on the ground in tall palmettos. He shot a black pig and piglet, the others ran off. He sat and a couple minutes later the palmettos were moving and all he could see was black hair above the palmettos moving and black hair in between the palmettos, safety is off ready to go, adrenaline pumping, etc. Turned out to be a bear, and was very close to being a shot bear. That is a bit of a rare occurence but they happen.
This is another reason we have a little more strict pig regulations is because of bears. |

Maybe the kids who shot the whooping cranes last year will do the same or at least learn from their mistakes |

I'd bet that after their folks got done paying for those cranes, that their stupidity got fixed!
