struggling with fishing strings.

hey guys, im trying to figure out which type of line can i use on my open face cast reel for specks cux im still struggling with some brands like sterns or power pro i even got some 12 pound test line but they still pop the lines once i get the specks up near the boat. i dont want any braind line like sprider or whatever. any advice will be very helpful....
