Dishwashers
The wife's dishwasher crapped out today and I've been looking at some on line. My question is what is the difference between a regular dishwasher and a built in dishwasher?

It's all good. I'll just ask the Maytag man when I get in from offshore.

Back on topic.........
Only 2 kinds I know of are "built-in" or "free standing"......meaning something that can be moved around if needed. These are usually smaller in size and used in an appartment or house that does not have a "built-in".

There is actually an integrated type also that some people call built-in. They are made to basically go deeper into the cabinet and usually have all the controls on the top of the door so they are not seen. Most of them are made to attach a wood front and wood toe kick so you can't even tell it is a dishwaher behind the cabinet front. They do make them in colors and are normally a little smaller(like 3/8") and have rubber side guards which allow you to push them further into the cabinet to look more built-in.
