LA out-of-state license fees (especially for Texans)

I am venturing out into dangerous territory with this as my first post, but here goes nothing. I have enjoyed hunting in TX for years, especially deer and turkey, which are in more abundance and I don't mind (much) paying the now, $300.00 for that priviledge, after all, it is a priviledge and you do get what you pay for. I know the we have some sort of reciprocal license fee law, but i think the state has missed the boat on reciprocating. If BL is the world class fishing destination we know it is, I hope somebody with a lot more stroke and contact is ahead of my thoughts here...:work::work:

I say place a $1000 fishing license fee...no more one or five day pass ....

$5000 for a guide out of state to charter a trip on our waters

trying to figure out what the point of your post is. i just looked it up, and hunting / fishing licenses are approximately the same costs for non-residents in both LA / TX. If you are trying to blame Big Lake woes on Texans, then this is a joke. Big Lake is my home away from home and I can tell you I have never had problems with Texans on the lake. If people are so worried about it, then stop keeping limits ever time out!!! After fishing the SFA this weekend I have a newfound respect for our speckled friends and had as much enjoyment letting them go as I did catching them.

A lot of the Texans you are referring to are in the same boat as me in the fact that we were born and raised in LA. When it comes to conservation efforts pick up a copy of Texas Saltwater Fishing Magazine and you might learn a thing or two...

I agree with everything you just said Micah.

mikedatiger, just out of curiosity, if you purchased a yearly out of state license, what did it cost?

mikedatiger 04-19-2010 01:28 PM

it's $90. Basic fishing $60 + Saltwater $30. This doesn't include the thousands of dollars I contribute to the great state of LA each year for lodging, food, gas, etc.

if you compare license fees for each state you will see that they are about the same - in fact, I believe a TX out of state fishing license is $22 cheaper...

AMEN to that!!

They are both top notch sportsman states. I think that the 2 states need to reach an agreement with each other similar to Toledo in that as long as you're on that body of water whether you break the plain of the mouth of a bayou or not either license should suffice. this is not the case however which is pretty lame. I don't ever fish BL but stay on Sabine so why should I have to pay out of state license fees plus some other hog wash fee to fish water that I launch in my home state. Before I get pounced on I have more kin folks from La than Texas. Can't we all just get along? :*****:

elaw62 04-19-2010 01:48 PM

I don't know. It's getting so expensive over here I can't fish either

Is part of the Texas Conservation plan, to fish Louisiana waters so they dont hurt their own fishing resources?????

respective licenses cost the same. hiking up fees an outrageous amount won't do anything but hurt the local economy. Not trying to defend TX here but everyone should look in their own backyard first before pointing fingers. (even little fingers :p)

almost all of the TX fisherman I know are catch and release guys...

I realize that and I'm just stirring the pot a little bit. But if they want to talk about "Texas conservation" then they can go conservate (I just made that word up:D ) in texas. Louisiana's conservation needs are probably a little different than Texas' conservation needs, so they can keep that over there.
