I'm sure it looked bad at night but it sure doesn't look like I expected. I was waiting to see melted iron and it barely be recognizable.

i used to always think about the platform catching on fire when i was working off shore

LSUh20fowler 02-10-2010 02:35 AM

The fire started at appr. 01:15am. It did not get put out until later in the morning around 09:00. Lots of details are not able to be released right now. For example, what kept feeding the fire for so long?? I do know the answer as some other offshore workers can probably figure out.

I think some wells or another platform was flowing into it. The news said the fire was put out when the input flowlines were shut off from another location. They didn't specify where that was.
If the guys hit an ESD before jumping off, it should have shut in all incoming and outgoing shutdown valves and wells, if nothing was in bypass.
