TTF Stingray Kit - pretty cool!
 

Check out the latest product from TTF. It's a Stingray and Jellyfish Sting First Aid Kit. It's full of all the stuff you need to treat either injury - right down to a heat bar to help soothe the pain of getting nailed by a 'ray. It's only 12-inches tall and 6-inches wide, so it should be no problem stuffing this in a boat hatch or in a kayak.

The bag is also waterproof and re-sealable, so it can be used as an emergency ice bag, or even a dry bag. This is sorta' one of those "just in case" items. You hope you never have to use it, but if you do, at least you know you've got the stuff to doctor yourself up until you can get some help.

We also have a new Jellyfish Sting Relief Gel. You basically spray it on and then scrape it off. The gel bonds to the nematocysts (stingers) that jellyfish leave buried in the skin and when you scrape the gel off, the stingers come with it.

I just don't think this would have plugged the hole he tore in his heart when he pulled the barbed stinger out. But hey who know's...

A co-worker (not known for being the sharpest tool in the shed) came in and saw the kit on my desk today. He asked, "Do you think if the Crocodile Hunter woulda' had something' like this he coulda' saved his own life?"

My reply: "Probably not."

We love to wadefish, so the Stingray kit was born after seeing what can happen after you get hit by a Stingray. Cleaning up the wound and applying heat will help you get to the hospital with much less pain. Keep one on the boat, kayak, truck (if you walk in to wadefish)etc.

The Jellyfish Spray is good for the wadefisherman, children at the beach, basically anytime your in/near saltwater. Keep one on the boat, kayak and/or beach bag etc.

funny you post this today i saw my friend today that the link above is about come to find out the stingray gash on his foot from this summer is healed but latley he has been havinfg real bad headaches so he went to the doctor last week. as a result of the stingray injury to his foot he got a infection in his brain! it can cause blindness i forget the name i will find out and post it up 2moro

thats why I like to stay in the boat.

there are more sting-rays in Big Lake than people realize!!! I saw 4 in one spot one afternoon wading, and saw even more once I got up on the boat & trolling motor!

That jellyfish stuff will be great for the surf fishing and beach going this summer. Esp. for the the kids. Hope to never have to deal w/ one of them rays poppin me. I've only heard bad things from being hit by one when it happens and the later side effects after the injury has occurred.

May have to get a kit or 2. Is it being sold in retail stores yet?
(Academy, Wal-Mart, Gander Mt., etc....)

And regarding the stories on this thread - one thing I want to stress is that we certainly don't mean for this to be a SUBSTITUTE for going to the doctor. There are too many nasty bacteria in our water to skip out on a doc visit after getting plugged by a 'ray. One of the issues people often come across is that shards of the barb break off and lodge into the foot or leg - obviously, you're not going to be able to pull these out with tweezers. Play it safe and get treated ASAP, even if it seems like a "minimal" hit.
