Need help from you offshore guys
 

I know a lot of you on here work offshore and I need some advice. Im thinking hard about trying to get a job offshore since its almost imposible to get hired by any plant without experince right now. I have a degree in process technology and a coastguard captains license but no experince in the oilfield. So how would I go about looking for a job and what would someone start out as out there with no experince but a degree?

Look on rigzone.com. They normally have alot of job postings on there. Times are slow offshore right now, so I wish you luck. I asked my boss last week about openings and he looked at me like I was crazy.

You shouldn't have any problem getting on, try looking into doing some measurement while drilling = $$$$$$

You can eventually do project management with a process tech degree but it's very stressful/high pressure

call me i can get a lot better info to you including contacts, I would look at some of the big boys first, maybe transocean

with no exp you gonna have to take what they will offer at first, then the better money will come

with a degree in process technology, why not try to get a job as production operator . The degree helps out alot in that field because many of the operators out there learned from OTJ. Every company hiring operators minimally require at least.....1---5 years exp and / 2 2 year degree. Of course you will need to go through training and such, but that's any company. Big companies like SHELL AND CHEVRON ....the degree will only get you in the door. From then on, they send you to their special in house- schooling ...in your case, production operator....i have a few friends that work offshore and make cake as operators....other friends that have their degree liek u, but work in plants....make decent...i believe they start at 25+and easily get into 30+/hr

if offshore life aint for you...and for many it isnt'...give plant life a try. 40-50 hr weeks on rotation. and some plants pay overtime after 8 hrs. 4-10/hr days a week aint' bad at all...

but offshore has its perks also...

If all the big boys don't work out try Groquip in Sulphur ...... they were hiring a while back for offshore ....... not sure the money will be great , but it will get your foot in the door!!

Click on the internship opportunities. Shell hires thru technical schools mostly and trains them how they want. Now and then, we hire experienced mechs, elect., operators, ET, Inst. techs... ect. Just finished up an experienced hire, starting to do the interviews now.

I have a process degree and Interned with Shell offshore and still cant get a job, its a tough market, alot of guys out there with alot of experience
