7/20 afternoon trip
 

Caught a two man limit of nice trout and two bonus reds. Caught all fish on opening night bull minnow on south end. Fished a current line and busting bait. North to mid lake water was stained and got better the further south you went. Did try a reef midlake on the way in and picked up a few trout there that was released.

Were you fishing on Big Lake? Any Birds working?

Yes big lake. Didn't do much running saw one group of birds working on the south end but didn't leave our bite to try them. Another boat ended up fishing them but couldn't tell if they did any good or not

I'd head south to washout area. Fish any reefs, current, or drop offs that you know of in that area. Birds may work there as well. Live bait is not a must but can increase your odds of catching if you can get it. Heberts and spicers has them but run out early. The early bite is best so don't waste your trying to secure live bait and miss the bite. Just my two cents from a novice at best fisherman.

When I can get out there early enough ive had my limit by 730am many times. Nothing better than being first one to the fishing hole just before sunrise. Nice Work

I got to Calcasieu Pt landing at 5:30 AM Thur and there were 8 boat ahead of me.

Stay away from gand isle. 5:30 you should be fishing. You get to the bait line at 4:30 for opening at 5 am and have the boat in the water already. We put the boat in late one morning (5:15) and by the time we got bait the sun was coming up. :eek:

I got off 6 thurs so was late getting out there. Gerald was that u on the reef up in the corner too??? If so I usually get there when still dark. Did u catch those trout there earlier. The bite plays out a lot by 730 there and I got there about that time so just curious

Yes, I stopped there and caught one nice trout on plastic after I had tried to catch some bait for a while. Was probably 6:25 AM before I got there.


Later in the day, I looked for a small reef along the bank that sometimes has a few trout, but I could not find my landmark to located the reef. I fished that area for a while but did not catch anything.
