Anyone ran a Powertech SRD on a flat bottom?

Anyone ran a Powertech SRD on a flat bottom. I have ran their REB and was wondering about their SRD.

Good running prop after Coastal Propeller fixed them. I have run about a dozen of them, ONE, 1 was exactly as the description said. I ran a 14 pitch that turned 6250 on my rig loaded, ran a 15 that turned 5000rpm loaded???? Then Coastal Propeller fixed them both.

What the heck was the cause of 1250rpm change from a 14-15p? Not sure I want to screw with a company that props have that quality control. I Liked the REB, hated the NREB.

I ran a NREB and it had so much steering torque I couldn't run 10 minutes without getting off step and letting arm rest. I figured REB would have been the same, traded it for black Yamaha semi cleaver. I'm getting semi cleaver worked now from hitting something and putting pretty bad ding, looking into SRD for my semi V hull but reading that it may not be true from factory I'm second guessing it.

What RPM are you turning? I have a custom 15'5" x 56" all .125" alum and the Yamaha was 15P had to get it pulled down to 13p to turn 5500 rpm.

marshrunner757 01-11-2017 01:05 PM

Fishing load I run about 5800

The SRD, when worked by Coastal, will run about 1 mph slower than the Yamaha black stainless. The biggest advantage to the SRD is that it is an 11.25" diameter prop, the yamaha and scb are 10.25". The SRD will run about 2" higher than the scb and Yamaha. But again, THEY ARE JUNK OUT OF THE BOX! The SRD is available from 11 pitch to 17 pitch. You can buy the SRD, have it worked by Coastal, and still not pay as much as for a Yamaha. I have 2 SRD's, 1 for the marsh and 1 for the river. The marsh prop will get up in about 15' distance, then hit the rev limiter in about 60 feet. The river prop is a bit slower getting up but runs a few mph faster. You can buy the SRD all over the internet for about $215 delivered.

I'm glad I haven't ordered one yet, I'll run my Yamaha semi cleaver and get a round ear design for heavier loads. Any suggestions? Hot shot maybe?

I also bought a NREB for a Merc 40hp and it almost pulled my arm off. I live in Shreveport, La where Powertech is made and stopped by and they swapped it for a REB same pitch. I gained 400RPM and the REB had no torque steer. It is a MUCH better and faster prop. The REB blades are way smaller than the NREB blades.

Prolly gonna get a 15P REB and see if I can spin it.

I'm going to have to look into it, I have a Stellito Triad that's been worked twice and needs it again, Just received my Black Painted Yamaha back from shop it runs by far the best but I like a round ear for narrow curvy canals they tend to hold better in turns. REB may be my next option, Dans has them around $205 + shipping. Thanks for input

SRD

After testing SEVERAL props I found the SRD to be the best running prop for my setup. Im running a built 40 merc 59ci 2 stroke on a 656 edge 45mph loaded with 2 people with the 16p SRD. I think the main reason the SRD runs so good on my setup is because my motor is really high. Im running a short shaft on tall transom with a 12" bobs hydro plate. I tried the Yamaha BS, REB, ron hill semi cleaver. The SRD is still king for me. I like it so much I bought a second one same pitch. they both run identical straight out the box.

That is a crazy looking set up. I guess the hydraulic jack plate is elevated all the way up in those pictures and that's not how you run?

This is my set up. I have not run it yet with the new short shaft 40hp and can't find any markings on the current prop indicating a pitch. I am guessing I should be able to fly running a 40hp 3 cylinder on a 12x42 alweld.

That is correct, it runs the best all the way down. I can raise it up to 3" and still get water pressure. I mostly jack it all the way up to idle in and out of shallow spots when fishing marsh to keep my lower unit out the mud.

It ought to fly on that 12' boat! lol. that's a very clean looking Yamaha you got there.

Thanks. It does well, the hydro jackplate has a lot to do with it though. I can get up on plane in a soft bottom marsh as long as my boat is floating. the 56" bottom really floats high and keeps it high even getting out the hole.
