Sabine River 11/26/2016

Fished 7:30am-4:45pm with Iron Mike.
Caught 10 bass (kept 9), 2 flounder,
3 choupique (threw 'em back), and a nice 8.15 lb Striper.
Water temp 62.9-64 degrees.
Fished mainly on Texas side of main river and stayed south of I-10 using soft plastics. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...66a54525d2.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...d7c9dc19e4.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...5042fae89d.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...99d767ac9e.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...1546246fde.jpg

It was a long day but a good day.
The striper caught us by surprise.

Nice catch! That striper looked skinny! I fished that area and did well with a green pumpkin 1/2 oz jig with a watermelon candy speed craw trailer.

That's what I thought, too. It had a shad, a shrimp and a crab in it's stomach. Add the motor-oil colored worm it was going for and I'd call it a well-rounded diet. :)

Also, every bass and flounder we cleaned were carrying eggs.

Peacekeeper, is that a recent trip you're referring to?

There will be stripers in the river for the next month or so. Usually you can find a spot they like and catch them there first thing each morning.

I could get into that!

Doing a little reading, I found that the Texas WF stocked hatchery stripers in the river from Sabine Lake to south of I-10 in the mid-1960's and early 2000's partly as an experiment. Cool stuff.

Yes. They catch quite a few at times. I saw an old guy about 2 months ago had a nice one at mouth of burnt out. Caught on dead shrimp bottom fishing!
