BL 11/11/2016 Afternoon / Night

Hit the water around 3PM. Picked up some live shrimp at Cal. Pt. and headed out.

Saw a few flocks of birds around choupique island and in N. turners. Stopped for a few minutes but couldn't get a bite. A few other boats in the area doing the same. Didn't notice anyone doing any significant catching.

Headed into the marshes on the NE side of the lake. Water was incoming and pushing into the marsh pretty strong. Picked up two nice reds (22 & 24") almost immediately. Then nothing until dark.

Ran screaming from the mosquitoes down to fish the pier lights (if any). This was a first for night fishing on Big Lake for me. As best I could tell, I was the only one out there.

Fished lights from the blue camp back up towards calcasieu point. Picked up at least a few sandies, croakers, and rat reds at each spot. Probably 6-8 sets of lights total were on (and weren't being fished by the pier owners). Bite was slow but steady -- just enough to keep me from calling it quits for the day.

Got back to Cal. Point right at 11pm. Pretty much had the place to myself.

Ended up with 4 reds, several sandies, and a sheepshead in the box. That's about normal for me on Big Lake. All fish were caught on live shrimp under a cork, or gulp new penny on a 1/8 oz. jig head. No pictures as I was too damn tired. :)

Nice report. Strange no specks at them camps cause a lot caught during the day.

I was thinking the same. The water wasn't moving any to speak of. I feel as is there had been a little bit of current the fishing would have been better at night. Also only saw one small school of bait the whole night and they didn't seem scared of anything other than a 2-3 ft gar that passed by a few times.

I forgot how much I like fishing at night. [emoji1]
