3rd Motorguide Fail in 15 months

My Motorguide R3 transom mount failed me yesterday while fishing. Just failed to work all of a sudden.
This is the third Motorguide motor I have had crap out on me in 15 months. They seem to have no problem backing up their warranty and have been very accommodating, but the physical product hasn't proven to be very reliable.
For the record, I am as gentle as possible on my equipment and do what I can to baby it.
Has anyone else played this game with Motorguide? When the motors work, they work well. It's the only brand I've ever used for the past 20 years.

I switched to minn kota because of this and also I find the MK is better in grass. First MK I've had and very happy with it

I'm just looking for a reason to jump ship to Minn Kota.
I'm tired of trolling motors that don't function. I take care of all my stuff and try not to dog it (even at Lacassine) and treat it as gently as possible.
Minn Kota can't be any more disappointing than the last three Motorguides have been.
I was fishing the Sabine River yesterday when it went out at about 9:30am. I had planned to make a day of fishing but equipment wouldn't let me.
Very disappointing.

Sounds like you have at least 3 reasons...

When this warranty runs out or whatever, it's Minn Kota for me.

I didn't wait that long. I cut my losses

I've ran motor guide only once, and switched right back to minnkota. MK just seems smoother, quieter, and stronger.

T-Boo, whenever possible go to Minn Kota. At 56 years old...I have had #1 Pfluger, #2 Shakespeare, (3 of each between 1979 and 1980), several Motor Guides...small props and the "basket" that was supposed to keep all of the weeds off of the 8 inch aluminum prop...(all it did was put more weeds around the prop)...better Motor Guides in the 80's...OMG 24 pounds of thrust...then came the Mercury and Evinrude/Johnson trolling motors...they were beasts!!! Right before Rita I went to Minn Kota...I have an 80# on my surface drive rig and a 50# on my Edge/25 hp. No problems with either on and the 80# is 8 years old! Just my two cents...

I am on my second boat that came with a motor guide and I hate this one equally as much as my last one. I tend to fry mother boards often. They just seem alot cheaper made than the MK.

That's what the repair guy said was broken. The control board.

On the 2 I have had the mother boards are not sealed off and enclosed like MK control switches.

Sounds like I'm just not gonna win with Motorguide.
Like I said, once the warranty runs out its gonna be MK for me.

i run MG and have had very little problems with them, but if mine went bad 3 times in 15 mo, i'd definitly jump ship.
