Toledo Bend 3/12/2016

Water level has lowered significantly. Had to go to main lake to find clear water. Worked a pattern of finding isolated groups of flooded trees with nearby grass, keeping the boat in 5-6 feet of water. Water temp was 64-65 degrees. Had a good day with forum members Eernt and Gutwrench.

We released 8 or 9 smaller fish but ate well last night.

This place is back to being beautiful after the recent turmoil.
It's been an adventure the last four days.

We fished Thurs, Fri and Sat.
If we could have had three days like Saturday, I'd be stoked. However, I'm simply glad Saturday turned out well. Anybody that's fishing up there now ought to be slaying them.
The water was much clearer on the main lake than in our cove.

Good job. Launched the boat about 1:00pm yesterday (Sunday). Like you said, cleaner water closer to the main lake. Had 14 keepers but no toads. From inches of water to the deepest grass line. Small, wind blown pockets were money.

Did you happen to notice a bunch of mating carp?
They were tearing it up! Lol.

Yea, most I've ever seen actually. And a ton of small gar. Wasted a lot of time checking out boils that turned out to be carp/gar. Someone needs to take a bow up there and do some thinning lol.

Don't carp eat all the grass in a body of water? Seems like I've heard they are bad news in some aspect.

I think the Asian carp are the ones that are the real problems. If these guys are talking about what I think they are buffalo aka yellow carp. I know when they get in the bushes they make a big ruckus.

Y'all are talking about three different carp in these two posts, plus buffalo :rotfl:

Dude, I know, I've seen em like that and wished I had a bow. You could walk down the bank and murder them.

im off work next week, been wanting to shoot a bunch of carp from Toledo bend. what area yall seeing all these at?

T-Boo 03-15-2016 07:05 AM

Right up on the bank in shallow water. You could probably stick two at one time. They're all hooked up tight.

you think they will still be up shallow like that early next week. say Monday or Tuesday?

T-Boo 03-16-2016 05:10 AM

I have no idea. I wish I could get back up there but can't right now. The gar were also shallow. It seemed a little early in the year for that.

falcon29 03-16-2016 09:25 AM

im gonna go try it out I think and just see what I can shoot.

Was there Tuesday. Seen them on every bank we fished. Turtle Beach, Big Bass Cove and Pirates Cove. Could have easily shot 25 - 30 of them big suckers. They were everywhere.

T-Boo 03-17-2016 11:28 AM

I had never witnessed it. It was impressive. Didn't know what the heck it was at first.
