Gotta love lump season 1/28/16

After over a year of not fishing the lump I finally got back out there. I helped out a buddy of mine on his boat who hadn't had much luck down there. 6AM we were off and never looked back. The day started out as perfect as you could have wanted it. No fog on the river and clear sky's. We made it out to the lump around 7:30. I immediately got on the cutting board as we set up our first drift. Nothing. Next drift same story. This continued till 12 after hearing numerous captains over the radio say they are hooked up and watching boats next to us bring big yellows over the rail. We finally got the one bite we were looking for. And 45 minutes later and a good poon shot we were holding up a 160 pound yellowfin which was the first triple digit yellow to Be landed on the boat. Shortly after resetting we hooked up again. Another nice yellowfin. This one topped the scales at 110. The picture posted is of the 110. As soon as I get a picture of the 160 I will post it. If you never had a chance to get out there I highly suggest you go. It's awesome watching these if beast of a fish coming over the rail of a boat.

Glad you went for tuna instead of wahoo. Wise choice!

Man i tell you what it was the same thing last year the wahoo never showed up in great number east of the river, however I'm hearing good reports out west...maybe go give that a try soon, i need some wahoo steaks soon!

Bob, it caught on fire r days after we fished. Seas went to 12 ft Wednesday morning and as soon as boats could get out Friday it was on fire.

If you fish the bottom with weights theres a good bit but for the most part they do not get fired up and come to the surface much like they do at rigs. Now if you go to the midnight lump I find your chances on getting red snapper increase considerably. We see a lot of Bee-liners caught during this time of the year for the people who really try for them as well.
