Dorothy S. Carter, 58, of Grand Chenier, was pronounced dead at the scene, Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Kim Myers said. Sheriff's deputies responded at 4:30 a.m. Tuesday, Myers said. DOTD asked CPSO to check on Carter because they were unsuccessful in attempts to contact her. "When deputies arrived they discovered the bridge operator, Dorthy S. Carter, 58, Grand Chenier, inside the control tower face down in the motor," Myers said. "During further investigation it appears an article of Carter’s clothing became stuck in the motor and she was unable to free herself." The bridge has re-opened. Copyright 2015 KPLC.
