Prien Lake 12-4-14

I'm new here on the forum. I haven't had a chance to contribute yet, and I'm very thankful for all the info and helpful people on this site, so I figured I'd post a report.

I launched my kayak out of Prien Lake today and started out early at the drop-offs close to the launch with no luck. Saw a guy catching a few not too far from me. I decided to go to the North side of the bridge with apprehension because there were about 15 boats in the area and it was very foggy. Most of the boats were close to the bridge where the ship channel is, so I decided to find some less crowded water. I caught a rat red mid-morning and had a couple more hits, but the bite was pretty slow where I was.

After moving around quite a bit, I finally found a steady trout bite in around 5 ft of water. Probably could've picked up my limit, but I hadn't planned on staying past around 10:30, so work was beckoning!

The fish were all 12-17 inches, and the wind was virtually non-existent, so all in all, it was a pretty great day to be on the water.

All fish were caught on matrix shad and mirrorlure soft plastics.

A bad day of fishing is better than a great day at work. I struggled today, although I didn't see many others catching.

Good catch, thanks for posting, be careful in your kayak in a fog, some of them good old boys will run over you.

Yea, I was a bit nervous about it and stuck pretty close to shore, but the fog cleared considerably and I was able to move around.

adding to the fishing report

I do A LOT of fishing/shrimping at the Seawall. I went thursday 12/4 and caught 2 large carp in my castnet on the southern part of the seawall. That is the Only place along the seawall that I have been able to find any shrimp and I only caught a dozen or so. I have not seen any live shrimp running in about two weeks..
on my rod and reel I caught 4 blue catfish in the 17in range. i caught 3 blue catfish on my previous fishing trip as well (12/1).. they would not hit shrimp (live or dead).. they would only hit cut mullet and shad.. caught a couple undersized drum but even they were scarce. . Idk what happened to the lake around the civic center but the reds, specks, and flounder are gone and im catching species that I have never caught there before.
I understand that yall were talking about prien lake but I was wondering if y'all were having any similarities in that area.. about a week and a half to two weeks ago and many months before then the red and specks were plentyful at the sea wall
im puzzled

It happens sometimes like that this time of year. The water has probably freshened up some is all. It should be getting back to normal soon.
