Grand Chenier & Little Chenier Hunts

2 Attachment(s)
Hunted Grand Chenier Saturday with my wife and I never in my life saw so many spoonbills. We took six, then waited to see if anything else would show. The only other ducks we could have gotten were a pair of redheads which we proceeded to miss. About 8:00 with the spoonbills still envading we took up shooting again and finished the day all "SMILES". 12 spoonies, I never limited on spoonbills in my life so this was a first. Sunday we hunted our "experimental" pond in Little Chenier. We ended up with 5, 2-Greys, 2-Whistlers and 1-Spoonbill. We really should have had 10 but we wer off a little. All in all it was a good opener. Thanks to my wife and the good lord for this good season.

All kidding aside, the spoonie limit is impressive. I've often said I'll take a limit of them when people are putting them down. That's truly a once in a lifetime stringer.

Duckgogetter slaughtered the spoons as well in Grand Chenier. Nothing wrong with a strap full of Smiles

I'll shoot all spoonies, all day, everyday....Never understood why people hate on them so much...spoiled people.

We have a lot of spoons south of Kaplan where I hunt but we really try not to shoot them if we have a lot of birds. So far we have limited out each day...3 man limit on sat, 4 man on SUN and a 3 man limit today. Mostly teal. We have killed 6 mallards and 5 Pintail so far.

Had 72 this weekend, I didn't hunt today but my blind got 30. Passed on spoons, teal, and scaup for the most part. I've never been too good for spoons, nor will I ever be, but we had enough birds flying to pick and choose so why not. Pretty dam happy with the new lease so far lol. In GC
