Determining boat values?
 

I have a customer that was pulling their boat the other day when they were hit head-on. The trailer is a clear total loss and, the boat likely is too. Where is a good place to determine boat values? The ins company has no idea and, neither do I.

Check NADA price and look at for sale listings of similar boats. NADA can give you some odd stuff at times. So check different brand boats of similar size and quality for comparison.

what boat and motor?

Marine Surveyor or he may have to break it up (Fiberglass repair shop for boat, Outboard shop for motor, Trolling motor shop for that, wtc.) As for the hull itself, I use Lyle Jordan in Lafayette and he does tons of insurance claims. He can be reached at 337-278-6532. May be able to get you an adjuster to look at it.

Thanks everyone for the responses. It's an 18' Express bay boat. Sad part is, he just got back from Afghanistan. His wife bought him the boat while he was gone and, he bought his first-ever brand new truck when he got back. The truck had 1,408 miles on it when it was totaled out. He was taking the boat out for the third time.

Good news is that they all walked away.

Man that sucks. Hope he comes out on the good end which probably wont happen.

A welder I worked with was coming back late one night from shrimping and a drunk driver hit him, totaled out his truck and his boat.

He's gonna come out good on the deal. I've begun networking with a few folks that specialize in determining proper vehicle values, diminished values and, total loss assessment. We're holding two different insurance companies hands to the fire right now and, refusing to release the vehicles or, accept settlements. Let's just say that "You're(not always) in good hands" unless you beat them into submission!:rotfl:
