Whatever you buy make sure it is a 1000 marine cranking amps. I vote for interstate.

need advice on battery

I have had Interstate in boat going on 4 years now and has been run down 3 times to 0. If and when it dies I will purchase another interstate. One time the Cat got in the boat and pushed a ammo can with nails in it over the trim switch. It ran the trim up and it ran untill the battery was dead. Have a slow drain in wiring that takes about 3 weeks to drain battery...fixed it with a perko switch.

I just changed my Interstate cranking battery on my boat last week. The battery that I replaced was original to my boat which I bought in October of 2006.

After owning a boat for more than half my life
It all comes down to TWO years if your lucky
You can buy the most expensive brand and two years and it's done or you can buy cheap one and two years it's done

I get Wal Mart or Academy battles

My last wal mart cranking battery was 4 years old and still kicking but I figured it better to replace then wait till I was miles from the launch and have it go out. All I ever use is to crank motor and running lights and trim and I run at least 3 times a week. As for the troll motor its warranty is 18 months and after that it'l start running out of juice faster so 2 years is max on those.

That has been my experience also. I have been using delco voyager but recently switched to interstate. I still don't expect more than 2 yrs. I fish 3-4 times per week except during duck season.

Dont want to hijack, but how often should you/or do charge your batteries.

Man battery maintainers are battery's best friend!
Icechest radio AGM battery installed in 2008 stays on maintainer still plays radio for more than 24 hrs with a small amp!

My mud boat battery is a NOV.07 off brand no maintenance that is still cranking today, no ****t! On a maintainer

My bay boat came with cheap wet cell batts, that lasted 2 years I did not keep them on the maintainer and the winter temps pulled them down and weakened them soo they got tossed, I then replace with AGM's in Jan of 2010, and they are still cranking and trolling me along, and I've yet to have them go dead on me during a trip. Also on a maintainer

And last but not least, I get a kick out of this my 2005 dodge ram 2500 diesel had the same batts from June of 05 until aug of 2011 110,000k miles later, I replaced with dodge batts and there cranking me every day still!

I strongly believe the maintainers are a huge help, and I really lucked out with the truck batts, but Im 3yrs into the new ones and they are trying to spin the starting gear off the bendix. Is it all just luck?

I'm with W and the others on this. Maintain them after use and change them when they go bad.

That's what I do. I have a guest 3 bank charger. But didn't know how long to keep them plugged up once they are charged. I usually check to see of the lights are green then I un plug it.

No need to unplug. The charger is automatic and will charge as needed.
