Made a run out of Cameron day before yesterday. Crossed the ferry about 2 am and the boats were stacked right south of it with butterflies down, so I imagine they catching some.

I thought you could not do any commercial shrimping unless you were 3 miles offshore, during closed Inside fishing until above mentioned dates. Someone please shed some light.

I know that the area starting at the pilings just west of the grand isle bridge looks like a floating city at night on a falling tide before the inside opener. everyone just uses their engines to stay in place and lets the tide carry shrimp into the nets.

actually the federal waters offshore is never closed so if you are outside the state line boundary there is no season but in state waters you are "supposed to be shrimping only during open season dates.

its one of three things:

1 - they are in an area that is already open

2 - they paid someone off to shrimp illegally

3 - every single one of them is a test sample boat for wlf collecting test samples.

Outside shrimping doesn't necessarily mean federal waters. In cocodrie they just have to be south of islands. However they can shrimp in caillou bay which is north of raccoon pt

Louisiana shrimp season are for inland waters. In Cameron they will butterfly up to the beach line in jetties during the closed season.
