8/7 GI overnighter
 

Got invited to go down to the island to fish with a couple guys from Texas that were in for the weekend.

We rolled out of the pass around 2 to flat calm seas

Hit a weedline about 20 miles out and saw a couple of nice Mahi, but couldn't hook up. Moved a little further south and caught some bait, and one of the guys hooked up to a decent ling that broke the hook on the jig he was throwing. Filled the live well with bait and headed south to medusa. Stayed there for a few hours only picking up a couple blackfin. Ran further south to the Mars area and hit a few structures around there. Saw lots of fish busting, but the current was ripping so hard we couldn't hook up to any yellows. Caught some blacks on jigs and poppers, and had a couple nice yellows blow up on my popper. Headed back to medusa for the sunrise bite. Threw some more poppers, trolled a little and caught some Bonita and started chunking. Hooked up with a decent yellow and let the guy who had never caught one fight it. By that time it was around 10 and we fished for a little longer with no other bites, so decided to run in. Made a stop on the way to try to find some grouper, but all we found was the endangered snapper and a shark. Had a good time can't wait to do it again in a couple months.
