help in selecting a depth finder

I wanted to upgrade my depth finding unit from the eagle cuda 242 I have on it now.

I think the transducer is going bad and I bought it 8 years ago so I figure its better to just buy a new one instead of a transducer that may or may not be the problem.

what is a good choice for a new good quality depth finder with view screen (I prefer black and white screens) and not a numerical dash mount type. also I don't need gps or charting or any of that stuff.

its for mounting on a flatboat side console (nothing too big) that is in the $150-$300 range?

I was thinking about getting the Lowrance Mark-5X Pro Sonar, any opinions on this choice?

 no opinions at all on this unit?

you might want to give people a little time to reply.

right now everybody seems to be posting in the SC Benefit threads.
