Da Bay

Headed out this morning and was met with slick calm seas, but not a whole lot of tide movement. Pecked away at them at various places inside. When the tide went slack, headed offshore to explore the wild "brown" yonder. Went 15 miles out before the water turned decent, but still not much salt. Fished a platform in some ripping current only to find hardheads. Headed back in and picked up a few more inside before we called it a day.Water was pretty nice on the inside. These calm days should help out. Everything was caught on plastics. Even netted a big unusual looking one eyed shrimp swimming on top the water. Had a great time, looking forward to the next trip out. Game wardens were on the prowl too.

That shrimp is called a tiger shrimp. we do not see to many, but they can get pretty good size. I think the largest I have caught is about 5/6 count to a pound.

Nice trip and great report. I love when the Gulf is flat like that.

It seems like the water from the Atchafalya River and the Wax Lake outlet go West once it hits the Gulf. When I fish to the East of the river and the water is salty much closer to shore. Head over to the West side and it's much fresher way far out. When I was younger I used to work in the SMI 243 field and the water was almost fresh most of the summer. It didn't start to salt up until late summer early fall. That said last year I had my houseboat parked at the Atchafalaya Delta WMA and we where catching specks at the mouth of Log Island Bayou on the big flat between there and Catfish bayou. I guess the fish are where you find them.
