gig em

Been wanting to gig a few, so we tried south Sabine fri. Night. Water wasn't great, but we still stuck a few. Ended up trading the gigs for trout rods around 1am, and came home with a nice box of trout too. (Sorry no pics)....Sat. Night I met up with my family over on G-Bay, and the water was much better. Stuck 20 flats in a couple hours. We found those fish with no prior knowledge of the area what so ever. Just got lucky I guess?

Man that's awesome. Always wanted to gig flounder. Hell I'd settle for just catching one on rod and reel.lol.
Good times with the family. Can't beat that bro. Nice work Crabs :)

What kind of light did you use?

eman 06-16-2014 04:46 PM

If they used the light that they brought to G.I. last year. You could see a flounder at 50 yds.

I made these setups. Completely self contained and run off rechargeable AA's. I absolutely love em. They work very well. Had em side by side to a $600 dive light on Saturday, and they were almost as bright, way lighter, and more ergonomic. Cost about $90 in parts to build one. I would tweak the design a bit if I made another batch tho. If you gonna build one, holler at me. I can save you some time and $.

Obviously that depends on the water clarity, but in Galveston on sand bottom with fairly clear water, I spotted em at a max. of about 8ft. away

Don't hear that one too often... Tell me what lights you are using and I'll see what I can do!

Look into the wheel chair batteries. They are relatively small and last a long time. You can carry them in an ealry 90s model pleather fanny pack.
