Thanks for the post. This is a positive step toward smaller government for Louisiana. I caught some flak for criticizing this unneeded law earlier this year, but I've never known another state with this senseless requirement.

Most government required inspections shift the "innocent until proven guilty" presumption of the US Constitution and put citizens in the position of needing to actively prove and document compliance with requirements.

There are certainly some situations (vehicles carrying hazardous materials) where there is a compelling government interest in requiring inspections for vehicles on public roads, but recreational boat trailers do not meet any reasonable threshold of a compelling governmental interest.

Hopefully lawmakers, citizens, and the governor will continue to look for ways to reduce unnecessary size, scope, cost, and intrusions of government.

Funny thing is, I've never had mine inspected. I even built an aluminum trailer 2 years ago which you have to go to state police headquarters and have stamped and they didn't mention a thing. Like they said, they know its law but for the most part, did not enforce it.

only time I ever got/needed an inspection was buying a used trailer with or without boat. the DMV insisted I bring in a break tag for it or they would not register it but they wont give you a break tag without a registration so you have to do the dance and get rejection sticker to get registration (that costs the same as break tag) then go get the good sticker after you get the registration (only because its free because you paid already for the rejection sticker)

cant believe they actually did something that makes sense for a change, now if they would do away with it for motorcycles too that would be great. no sane person ever rides a bike without making sure all lights are working correctly, its suicide to do otherwise.

The only reason I support brake tags for trailers is because there are too many idiots pulling trailers down road without fenders. I don't want rocks or tire tread thrown in my windshield!

is there a weight limit to the bill or if they have brakes. in Tx it's 4500# or if it has brakes.

Never did mine but I bet it would not pass.

Thanks for info!

Only think I read was it had to be a boat trailer. All other trailers still need sticker.

The fellas pulling scrap trailer around with 4 maypop tires on it are the one who need to be inspected.
