Kayak Advice

I'm interested in purchasing a kayak to do a little redfishing in the lake by my house. I don't want anything real big, I'm thinking 10-12 ft max and really don't want to spend more than $400 or so for the kayak.

A couple that I'm tossing around are the Pelican Icon, Pelican Castaway, Ascend D10T and Ascend FS10. Are these good quality?

I've got the castaway, caught a lot of fish out of it but its too unstable to stand in (and I'm a small nimble dude) and tracks pretty terrible. But it's cheap lol. The Perception sport Pescador 12' is a really awesome yak for the price. Pretty stable too. My lil bro said it's basically the same as an ocean kayak that retails for twice the price. They sell em at academy too.

The Perception sport Pescador 12 is the old model Wilderness Systems 120. The West Marine Pompano 120 is the same boat. They are far better than the castaway. I own both and recommend for the money to get either the Pesacador or the Pompano. If I was buying today I would get the Pompano and order the wilderness systems seat that goes with it. Just my 2 cent main thing is that you get on the water. Btw I agree the castaway tracks horribly.

I also own a couple of castaways and agree with what the others said. It's ok for sightseeing down a bayou but not great for fishing. I would recommend a higher quality kayak for fishing. You can probably get a used one for a decent price.

X2

I'd add get 12-14' if you plan on fishing out of it a lot. I have bought 3 yaks because I settled, and finally got the one I wanted used, but for a decent price.

I got that same boat and I like mine. I think for the money that's a hard boat to beat.
