I may be in the market for a new boat soon and would like to hear recommendations for a local dealer. I am looking for a balance in price and customer service after the sale. Building a relationship with a local business is also important with me otherwise it would make sense to buy out of the area.

I am definitely considering them. The only drawback to Lake Area is that they don't sell Mercury. Anyone have experience with Evinrude Etec?

Bought my nitro from Henderson. So far I've had good service.

They can sell certain engines if you buy a package boat, not sure about Mercury though....
What size motor do you want and what boat and size are you looking at?

I'm looking at 18' ft Aluminum center console. I need a boat that is large enough to play and fish from but light enough to be pulled behind a travel trailer. The weight is the reason for Aluminum vs glass. HP I'm looking in the 90 range.

Aluma craft with a Suzuki would be my choice to look at from Lake Area or you can go to Sulphur and look at the Excel boats.... I would stick with Lake Area though

From everything I have heard, STAY AWAY FROM E-TEC. I have yet to talk with anyone that has not had problems, seems that the BRP engineers cannot write a good program for the ecu.
As for Lake Area, great guys. I have known Gerald since he was in Moss Bluff in that little metal building. He has never lied to me, even when the truth hurt. That's all you can ask of a human. There are no perfect people, but there are some that try harder than others, he is that kind of person. He raised Kyle to be just like him, so they are 2 of a kind.
I have been involved trying to help Lake Area through some pretty nasty product problems, Lake Area took care of them even when the manufacturer would not, that is customer service.
Gerald and Kyle will do what is right, whether it cost them or you, right is right. And the really great thing is that they will tell you the truth. If your boat won't be ready for 3 weeks, that's what they tell you. They don't lie just to make you happy. They do what the say and they say what they do.
Go here to compare all 90hp motors. You want the biggest cubic inch and the most cylinders. An outboard is an air pump, the more air you pump, the more power it makes. 4 cylinders will pump more air than 3.

So this means the mercury 4 stroke is the "best" choice?

I'm looking at the Ranger 1862CC MPV. with a 90hp. I really want to stay with an American brand outboard or at least north American brand. I also want an outboard that performs well. Mercury is a known product to me which is why it is my first choice.

That means whatever the data indicates. The old hot rodder saying still applies "there is no replacement for displacement".
