Vermillion river question

Hey im thinking about taking the family for a ride down the vermillion from Lafayette to abbivelle or further south. Is there anything I need to worry about? Just causing 25-30mph.

I've done it a couple of times...launched at Wawee's in Milton and tied up at the restaurant just past the second bridge in Abbeville and ate. Great time for sure.

Cool we may do that. Didnt know they had restaurants on the river.

What kind of restaurant is it.

If you are coming from the beaver park launch the only real slow down that I can recall is near the 733/ E.Broussard Bridge it's a few hundred feet no wake zone. Other than that it should be free and clear. I haven't launched at Wawee's in awhile but I remember when I was younger hearing the gravel on the prop when you engage it...

The ride from Beaver Park to Abbeville is an easy one. There is one or two restaurants in Abbeville that you can dock at. WaWee's is only good for a beer. It's owned by the Bandidos.

it's a fun ride! i do it with a few times a year... just watch for logs floating in the water... other than that it's a good run.

The Resturant in Abbeville is called the River Front....is it still open? You dont want to go to Wa Wee's in Milton...especially with kids...they may see things that you don't want them too!

Booze Cruise!!! Just don't drink if you're captaining the ship. I hear WLF frowns on that. ;)

The Riverfront had a fire a while back, part of it is still open and they do still serve food but it may be a limited menu. However you can still dock there and walk across the bridge to Dupeys and have some oysters. Also from the La 14 bypass bridge to the Port street bridge is also a no wake zone, FYI.

How long would it take to ride from Beaver Park all the way to the edge Weeks Bay? I always wondered if having a house on the river would allow for trips like that. It's roughly 33 miles along the river in google earth, but add a few to that for the little bends I straightened out. Realistically 1.5 hr ride?

Duck Butter 03-28-2014 02:28 PM

did it a few weeks ago, there was an actual beaver right by the ramp and you can almost pet it if you are brave

We headed up towards Breaux Bridge and you can get into the Ruth Canal and be right there by Lake Martin

alphaman 03-28-2014 02:28 PM

I got 38 miles from beaver to abbivelle bridge.

That sounds right, I was measuring from closer to Milton. Probably too long of a ride to do regularly.

South of abbeville the river is much cleaner and more scenic,FYI. I launched in abbeville and ran to the bay a few times.

I can vouch for the Resturants in Abbeville; RiverFront, Dupuy's & Shucks are all good places to eat. Sexy & I prefer Dupuy's most of all!
